Northside Elementary School Students Gather Together for the First Time

On Tuesday, March 19, students across the district participated in student visitation day. Students who are transferring to a new school next year, boarded buses at their current school for a field trip to their new school.  Students, who will be attending Northside Elementary next school year, gathered in the theatre at Carrboro High School.

Northside principal, Mrs. Carnahan, welcomed students and had them stand up by the grade they will be in next school year. Excitement filled the room as students looked around to see the faces of their new classmates. There was a huge round of applause for the rising fourth graders who will be the 2014 graduating class for Northside Elementary. Mrs. Carnahan also introduced members of the Northside staff who were attending the event.

Members of Theta Pi Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill entertained students with a step show and cheer. Following the performance students were treated to a video tour of our school under construction. Students were given a glimpse into the spaces inside and outside of the school building. Following the video tour Northside assistant principal, Coretta Sharpless, introduced students to the exciting task of voting for a school mascot.

Before returning to their current school all buses drove by the Northside construction site to allow students an opportunity to see their new school being built. The Northside family looks forward to having everyone back together in August!
